Transparency Through Education: The NLP Facility Tour
Transparency is a key part of building a more sustainable system. There is often uncertainty around how recycling works in Hong Kong—what happens after bottles are collected, and whether they are truly recycled. Opening up the facility is one way to address that, by showing the process clearly and directly.
The facility tour offers a close look at how post-consumer PET bottles are transformed into valuable materials. Visitors follow the journey from collected waste to finished output, including food-grade rPET flakes suitable for new beverage packaging, and other recovered materials used across a range of applications.
Seeing is Believing
We are proud to serve as a hub for environmental education, welcoming a diverse array of stakeholders who share our vision for a greener Hong Kong. Our facility has become a meeting point for:
Academic Institutions
From primary schools to universities, we host students eager to learn about the science of recycling and the circular economy.
Corporate Organisations
Companies looking to better understand sustainable supply chains, ESG reporting, and corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
NGOs and Community Groups
Environmental advocacy groups and social welfare organisations dedicated to community improvement.
The General Public
Concerned citizens and families—ranging from children as young as 6 to seniors over 75—who are eager to see how their individual recycling efforts contribute to a larger impact.
Building Wider Understanding
Since launching in 2022, the tour programme has welcomed a broad mix of visitors from across the community. More than 300 tours have been hosted, with participants ranging from 6-year-old students to older adults.
Over 4,300 visitors have experienced the process in person and seen the stage up close. A further 1,200 participants have joined through virtual tours, making the programme accessible beyond physical visits. The tours bring together schools, businesses, NGOs and members of the public, creating a shared understanding of how recycling works and why it matters.
